Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. At the age of five the carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother no option but to become a cleaner woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was a student at the school located in Boston's poorest tenement area. Her school was closed in two short years to pursue acting. The path she chose was filled with difficulties. After landing a gig at New York as a model for a detective magazine she had a difficult time trying to find work for stage. As a hat check woman in a nightclub she quit her job and moved back to Boston. She worked as an usherette during the day and then appeared at the New England Repertory Company by night, which was her first acting position that was permanent. She also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
